ICANN stole my idea

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

This happens to me all the time. I’ll have a great idea for a product, service, or improvement to the internet and somebody will come along and steal my idea. Well, folks, it’s happened to me again.

According to a ZDNet article, ICANN approved the use of the .xxx domains. Similar to .com, .net, or .org, these new domains will make web sites of adult nature more obvious to the innocent web user. This certainly won’t eliminate pornography from the other TLDs, but it would give pornographers their own special place away from everybody else online. I can hear you thinking, “wow, that’s a great idea!” And you’re probably thinking that because it was my idea about 6 years ago. Though most of my ideas are wonderful, I’m not so sure about this one.

We’ll never get porn to leave .com, .net, and .org alone, so we are really just giving pornographers more space to spread their, um, merchandise.

We’ll never keep people (like me, for instance) from gobbling up good domain names in the .xxx realm just to resell them to folks in the porn industry.

And what about the corporate porn spoof sites that will come from this? Burger King Bimbos at www.burgerking.xxx, Symantec sleaze at www.symantec.xxx, Naked Homer at www.thesimpsons.xxx. The horrible list never ends.

And what about www.moreron.xxx? We’re not going there. I promise.

Yeah, but thankfully no one has stolen my idea yet. WPRN - All Porn Radio, All the Time!

I’m not so sure that one was totally yours. You probably get only 1/5 or 1/4 credit of that one.
