The Winter Begins

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

On my calendar, there are 2 seasons: baseball and winter. Last night around midnight, the winter season began. As the White Sox finished off the Astros in one of the most evenly matched World Series I can recall, baseball for 2005 came to a halt. It’ll be 4 long months before pitchers and catchers head back down to Florida (or Arizona) and 5 months before Dad and I make our annual pilgrimage down to see the Spring Training baseball. I’m already excited about going.

Oh, and, Ozzie Guillen, if you’re reading this, you’re welcome in Atlanta. Maybe we can get rid of that boob of a manager we have and get past round 1 of the playoffs at least once this decade.

Thank goodness it’s finally over and back to TV as usual.

Oh, and “evenly matched.” I really don’t follow the sport, but was it not a sweep of the series?

Ron @ 2:03 pm:

yeah, the White Sox swept, but all of the games were close, and all could have easily had a different outcome. It wasn’t like last year when the Cardinals just decided not to play as the Red Sox walked all over them in the World Series.

and yes, you finally get your TV as usual…except for interruptions by the other sports.

Wulfgar42 @ 3:49 pm:

The difference is that the other sports stick to a schedule and don’t preempt TV for nearly a MONTH for a stupid post-season.

Post-season Examples:
NASCAR (which I know you hate) - does not deviate from their normal schedule (once per week). “Playoffs” consist of the last 10 races in the normal season, played at normal times.
Football - games are all played only on Sunday afternoon/evenings and there are only 3 weeks of them.
Hockey - post-season? Last year there wasn’t even a season.
NBA - playoffs are nearly as long as baseball but seem to fall at odd times and games take half (or less) the time of a baseball game. Also helpful is the fact that TV is already in haitus for the summer during the NBA playoffs.
Golf - huh?
