I have been listening to some good podcasts lately. Among my favorite are Leo Laporte’s “Security Now”, “KFI Tech Guy”, and “This Week in Tech” (TWIT). I’ve also enjoyed “5 minutes with Wichita” with Wichita Rutherford.
What are you listening to?
CNN is reporting that a 34 year old French woman, Sadrine Helene Sellies, was placed on a $1,000 AU bond after she pled guilty to “endangering the safety of an aircraft.” Apparently she was drunk and tried to open a door on the plane - during flight - to smoke a cigarette. Her lawyer said she had taken sleeping pills as well.
There are several instances of stupidity here:
- Mixing alchohol and sleeping pills
- Attempting to open a plane door during flight (was she going to sit on the wing and smoke?)
- Smoking (it’s just a dumb thing to do)
But the real lesson to be learned here is this: Don’t let those yellow bellied surrender monkey French people get on your airplane.

I’m so excited today. I’m hanging out with a rock star (sort of) and will be dining at the most wonderful Mexican restaurant on God’s earth.
Buenos nachos!
Andy Gullahorn’s “Broken Places” came on the shuffle this morning, and I got a renewed laugh at this verse:
I’d like to find the guy who said this was an easy life
and call him the liar that he is
because by now I’ve lived long enough to know
it’s uphill in the snow, barefoot most of the time.
That song is from “Room to Breathe”. You can get it at www.jillphillips.com. It’s worth having.
Today is Veterans Day. If you’re in the USA right now, you owe a lot of people a lot of gratitude. Try to show a little today. And tomorrow. And the next day…
Atlanta Braves manager Bobby Cox was awarded the NL Manager of the Year award. I’ll give him credit for this year; he had a lot of rookies and a lot of injured stars that he had to handle. The Braves won the division when it wasn’t expected by all. (Of course, they lost in the NLDS…it wouldn’t be an official baseball season without an NLDS loss).
I’m sick and tired of hearing all this cheering about how great of a manager Bobby Cox is. This year, yes, he did a fine job and probably deserves the Manager of the Year award. But all we hear from local sports folks (like the totally awesome Pete “Snake” Davis on 640 AM) is how wonderful Bobby is. I’m sorry, but my mother could have managed those 1990s Braves teams to the post season. When you give a man that much talent, the team is going to be successful. He hasn’t done all that much in the manager’s role.
As a general manager, yes, he was great. But Bobby needs to step back out of the dugout and let the Braves get a real manager in his current role. 14 post seasons since 1991 and 1 World Series championship. Yeah, we almost won, but if I almost did my job 13 out of 14 years, I’d be writing this from the unemployment line while leeching off of some guy’s unsecured wireless internet access point.
Stupidity is everywhere; there’s no denying it. There used to be a time in life when stupidity was mostly hidden. Not now though. Now we’ve got idiots running the streets displaying their ignorance for all to see. Take a look at this picture to see exactly what I mean:

I’ll wait just a moment for you to stop laughing.
This car’s owner is an idiot. It is, however, important to understand why this guy is so dumb. It’s not because he has a car that is 2 feet farther off the ground than it should be. It’s not because he’s got those killer wheels that would be a better fit on some monster truck. It’s not even because he thinks this is an acceptable (or even appropriate) modification for his car.
Why then, you ask, is this man an idiot? He’s got $10,000 (my guess) in modifications to a car worth about $3,000. For that, the poor guy could be driving something rather nice. He could even have a car that doesn’t look like something vomitted out of a Detroit auto plant. Of course, that would probably require a credit check and a job…
(I keep forgetting to post this…)
Rock star extraordinaire Eric Peters has been hard at work making yet another musical masterpiece. He’s taking preorders for the new CD over at his web site, so go order 10 or 12 of them. Your advance order will help the efforts of funding the new project; plus, when the CD comes out, it’ll be like you get it for free because it’ll just show up in your mail. How sweet is that?! Preordered copies are just $10. Go now.
I found out this week that a friend of mine is going to be on TV Friday night. His family is the focus of this week’s Supernanny. I don’t know anything about the show, so if it’s stupid, I’m sorry. It sounds stupid enough, I know. But I’ve heard good things about it around the office.
Trae is a pretty cool guy - outside of that fact that he’s a Bush-hating liberal [hi Trae]. He worked with me here in Kennesaw for 3ish years before moving away. I don’t really know the family though, but Trae is pretty cool, for a liberal.
Anyway, if you’re bored on Friday night at 8:00 (I think, check your local listings), tune the TV to ABC and watch the Facente family. Then, as soon as it’s over, turn back over to FOX before ABC brainwashes you with their liberal, America-hating “news” reports.
