Missing Wal-Mart Cashiers Found!

Scores of Georgia citizens rejoiced this weekend at the news the cashiers missing from the local Hiram, GA were found. The cashiers were found in good health, though tired, bravely holding their stand behind the registers of the new Wal-Mart in Dallas, GA. The new Wal-Mart, whose parking lot alone covers 74 square miles, was nearly full as patrons dropped by to see the many cashiers.

Wal-Mart checkout lines were open, and the wait was minimal, thanks to a heroic effort by these once-missing cashiers. Customers were overheard singing the praises of Wal-Mart and swearing never to return to the overpopulated and uneducated Hiram store.

Safe Eyes Coupon Code

I’m pretty proud of myself. I was trying to purchase Safe Eyes today and I started guessing at coupon codes to get one to work. I actually got one. So if you are looking to save $10 on the Safe Eyes internet filter software, you can use this coupon code: XJHG1296AK

I tested it, and it only seems to work for purchases of the software…not for upgrades. So if you already have the software and need a coupon code to upgrade Safe Eyes, you’re out of luck I guess. But if you’re just now buying, I just saved you $10.

You’re welcome.

Edit: I commented this below, but I wanted to make sure it was obvious.  That coupon has expired, but I was able to locate another one.  This one is also for a one-time $10 discount, but does not work on renewals.  Use coupon code ZEIG6275RD when purchasing.

Skating With Celebrities

Looking through our PVR last night, I saw that one of the shows I usually record got moved to another time slot. In its place was the new “Skating With Celebrities” show. My wife likes watching figure skating, so we turned it on. I mean, who wouldn’t want to see Dave Coulier try to keep up with Nancy Kerrigan on the ice?

We only had half of the show recorded so I didn’t have to suffer through the whole thing. It was pretty pathetic. You’ve got these has-been celebrities (sorry, Dave) skating with these has-been skaters (sorry, Nancy). There’s just nothing exciting about that. A couple of the people did ok, but for the most part it was a skater doing all kinds of spins and tricks and stuff like that while the celebrity tried his best not to fall down (sorry, Dave).

And to add to the already overly pathetic drama, you’ve got these skaters who won multiple gold medals in the Olympics acting like the scores they get on this TV show really matter at all…as if that tenth of a point will make a difference in their career as a skater.

It’s shows like this one that make me glad that shows like “Arrested Development” are out on DVD.

30 Day Gourmet

My wife had this idea that she was going to cook for 2 weeks at a time and then freeze it all. I was skeptical. She bought some book about freezer cooking and got all excited about having a freezer full of food. The idea is that you get the stuff in your freezer, and then the actual prep time when it’s time to cook for the evening is much lower.

I’ve got to admit that it’s worked out pretty well. The food has been great, the kids have been eating it, we’ve got a freezer full of food, and it cost a lot less than “regular” cooking. So if you’re looking for a change, check it out.

Google Backlink Update

It seems that Google has done a partial backlink update.  This domain got the backlink update last night, but a few other sites I watch are still waiting.  I’m hoping that the PR update will show up soon.

In other news, here are a few terms I’ve noticed people searching for and how I’m ranking for those terms:
#4 - walmart cashiers
#4 - supernanny facente family
#3 - Andrew Peterson Appendix A
#2 - Joshua Dingler
#2 - Don Wildmon email address
#1 - Don Wildmon idiot

(No, I don’t have Don Wildmon’s email address [yet].  And, yes, people really found this site by searching about Don Wildmon being an idiot.)

A Love Song For Bobby Long

Don’t get me wrong.  I hate John Travolta as much as the next guy.  That Scientology stuff has put him in the same category as Tom Cruise.  Maybe old John isn’t as much of a vocal freak, but he’s still a freak.  Anyway, I’ve not cared for most of the films he’s been in.

The girl in Blockbuster the other night recommended that I check out “A Love Song for Bobby Long” sometime.  I wasn’t dying to see anything else, so I picked it up.  I hadn’t heard about this film, and most films with popular actors that go under the radar (under my radar) aren’t  really worth seeing.  So I didn’t expect much.

The story starts slow, and there are some slow spots in the movie.  This is definitely not one of those “best movies of the year” type of films that the movie critics rave about.  But it did have (mostly) believable characters and a story that really catches your attention.  It’s not for everyone, but if you’re looking for a decent drama, I’d say it’s worth watching.

From the Camera Phone

Last time I went to visit my parents, I saw this sign at a local flea market. I took a picture because my twisted sense of humor enjoys stuff like this.

Why I Hate Advance Auto Parts

I lost the cap to the master cylinder in the Mountaineer.  I’m not sure how, but I did.  I noticed it today while I was changing the oil.  That’s no big problem.  We were planning on eating at the Mexican restaurant right next to Auto Zone anyway, so I figured we’d just swing in and grab one.  Well the guy there (very helpful) said they didn’t have one, so I was forced to go to Advance Auto Parts to get what I needed.

Walking out the door of Auto Zone, I was trying to remember why I hated Advance so much.  It has been 12-18 months since I bought anything from them.  I just remembered making a mental note to not return to Advance unless I was forced into it.

I pulled up to the Advance Auto parking lot, walked inside to find a very friendly young man there waiting to help me.  I told him what I needed and he asked what car it was for.  When I said it was for a 2000 Mountaineer, he looked at me, paused for a few seconds and said “Mountaineer…that’s Chevy, right?”

Now I remember…

Here Comes Google…

All of you SEO freaks out there should get ready.  I have a feeling that something big is going to happen soon.  It’s been months since the last big Google PR update, and it’s about time for another one.  Plus, I’m seeing an unexplained significant increase in traffic coming from the Googlebot lately.  It’s like they’re watching something really closely.  Maybe, if I’m lucky, my puny PR1 will get to a respectable 3 or 4.  Yeah, maybe it’s a long shot, but I can dream.

If you watch your web stats, let me know if you’re seeing some of the same things from Google.

Dad’s Birthday

Today is my dad’s birthday.  I had this crazy idea last night, but it’ll need your help.  I think it’d be funny to flood his email with messages from people he doesn’t know.  So if you see this while it’s still January 12, send a quick “happy birthday” to my dad.  Email address is principal AT sumterchristian DOT org.
