Pierce Pettis

I was “wowed” this morning (again) by Pierce Pettis’ “State of Grace” project. Some time ago, I attended my first Pierce concert down in Atlanta. Team Redd suggested “State of Grace” since it’s all about Alabama, and they’re from Alabama. What a winner that choice was!
So now I was thinking on the way to work today that it’s time for another addition to my Pettis library. Any suggestions of what should come next?

I just got Great Big World (as in last night), and it is, of course, good. However, it hasn’t yet edged out Making Light of It as my favorite

It took me awhile, but I finally completed my Pierce Pettis collection. Some singer/songwriters take awhile to develop. Pierce Pettis seems like he was always good–even back in the 80’s. And though he’s no doubt improved as a songwriter, his discography, top to bottom is excellent. You won’t find a clinker.
All that to say that if you had equal access to all, I’d probably recommend “Chase the Buffalo,” though it’s harder to find because it’s out of print. And unlike some out-of-print CDs, you won’t find much of a discount on e-bay for it.
Of the easier to find CDs, “Everything Matters,” is one I seem to consistently pull out and “Great Big World” has become a favorite too. For pure frivolity and sing along pleasure, “Cracker Jack Ring” is a blast. “Alabama 1959″ must have been left over from “State of Grace,” because it has that kind of feel.
Let us know what you buy and how you like it.
