Wirefly Cell Phones

It seems that everywhere you look, there’s a reseller of wireless providers popping up around town. They’re everywhere. These aren’t the actual cell phone companies opening offices, but rather small businesses that have reseller agreements with the major cell carriers. I have always liked the idea of not dealing with the big cellular company, but sometimes you wonder if the small business will be around the next time you need them. Wirefly.com, who has been around for several years, solves that dilemma.
One of the things about the Wirefly.com web site that really stands out is the ability to compare plans. For example, you enter your zip code, and you see a list of providers in your area. Then you can narrow your search by choosing the providers you’d like to consider. Then you see plans from those providers, and you have the ability to compare the little details about each one.
The only down side to dealing with an internet company for a cell phone is that you have to wait for the phone to come to you. They ship their phones by FedEx, so your wait would be minimal, but there’s still a little wait. They answer this negative point (and any other issues) with a 100% satisfaction guarantee.
I have not bought my own cell phone in about seven years (it’s one of the nice things about having an IT job), so I can’t speak about Wirefly from personal experience. They’ve got some good customer reviews posted on their site, and they’ve got a 99+% feedback rating at ebay, so if you are in the market for a phone, they may be worth considering.

I just realized an interesting thing- I have no idea how to view comments on your blog. WordPress blogs really confuse me, and it took me a very long time to be able to comment, because I had lots of trouble with the passwords they gave me. Umm, so… any suggestions on how to see the comments??? Their little hint about following the RSS 2.0 feed was not useful whatsoever to me…

Wirefly seems to offer deep discounts on cell phones, but I know why. They make such unreasonable demands for you to comply for the rebates that no matter what you do, you cannot get your rebate from them. I have had a cell phone (purchased through Wirefly as an agent for Verizon) since May 2006. I had to wait until November 2006 to apply for my rebates; once I applied for them (by submitting 6 months worth of cell phone bills as paid proof for plan) I then had to wait 30 days for them to post on the website to track status. Now, in the meantime of mailing the rebates out (I have 2 - one for $50 and one for $150) they change the mailing address for the more expensive rebate. After 30 days I begin checking for the rebate submissions - only the $50 shows up. I call and call and finally after pitching a fit, they let me re-submit the $150 since they were having “trouble with the forwarding” on the po box change. Now, all of a sudden, I have two $150 rebate submissions posted (guess the first one really made it, they were just stalling to see if they could keep the money). Guess what - both for $150 are denied. Now, they caused the double submission and then they are denying it because it says I didn’t meet the data coverage on the phone (I took a higher plan than what they required - go figure!) Bottom line, go through the cell phone carrier - don’t mess with Wirefly - I have a feeling I am not the only one who is being shafted out of their rebate. I haven’t conceded yet - still fighting for my rebates - my cell phone is almost a year old… I am sure the attorney general, better business bureau and Verizon will be interested in Wirefly and their practices very soon.
