A decade
3650 days (plus leap year days)
1/10 of a century
1/3 of my life
Has it been 10 years already? Wow. It’s almost hard to believe that 10 years ago today, my wife and I became “my wife and I.” Those 10 years have included a lot, too. Several moves, a few jobs, 2 kids, 4 cats (and the untimely death of 2 of them), car accidents, 5 cars, a few medical nightmares. And a house. Yes, let’s not forget about the 30 years of debt (now just 26 years…).
A lot has happened these 10 years, but one thing hasn’t: my wife hasn’t killed me. So yay. Happy Anniversary to us.
We didn’t do a whole lot to celebrate. We got a friend to watch the kids, and we went out to one of my favorite restaurants (Henry’s in downtown Acworth…it’s awesome Cajun food). Maria had never been there before, so she enjoyed having something new. Then we went to Wal-Mart and bought some flower pots.
And people say romance is dead.

Dad (or Pappy) @ 12:49 am:
You might be a redneck if your anniversary celebration includes Wal-Mart, but congratulations on this milestone in your lives. It is becoming very rare these days. I have seen many children suffer through divorces and separations during my 24 years in a school environment. Thank you for giving my grandchildren a united home in which to live. Your paternal grandparents have 58 years together and your parents 33 years. Keep the tradition going, and may your wife continue to fight the temptation to kill you on the days you are not as romantic as you were today.

Ron, congratulations to you and your wife on 10 years. Becky and I are only about a year behind you. Here’s wishing (and praying) for God’s blessings on many more happy years for you two.
And yeah, WalMart is a pretty good date spot. Been there, done that.
Geof F. Morris @ 7:37 pm:
Happy anniversary, Ron! One of these years, I’ll meet your wife.
Spine Doctors Wife a.k.a. Sasha @ 10:36 pm:
Congratulations on the big 10! The Spine Doctor and I reached this milestone back in the fall. I think the wifely desire to kill starts to diminish around year seven so you have probably been safe for at least the last three. We get too busy with the kids to plan anything too sinister. Good luck on the next ten.

Congrats, Ron! Adriene and I are working on working on year 7 ourselves. Time goes so fast!

That was a great post from Pappy. It takes a great man to manage the tension between poignant and funny so well. I can see from whence much of your sense of humor came.
We just went through our silver anniversary a couple of years ago. I was agast because to me having a silver anniversary=old. I still can’t believe it and I will not display anything silver anniversary related in public view. We celebrated number 27! this year. At least two of those have been spent in Walmarts.

It just occurred to me that 1) you got married young and 2) did so on the day I graduated from high school.
Ron Davis @ 1:08 pm:
Yeah, I was young. In fact, on our honeymoon, we had a stopover in Virginia. The lady at the hotel wouldn’t rent me a room because I wasn’t 21. I said “My wife is 21. Will that work?” The look of shock on the lady’s face was priceless.
