[For the record, this question has absolutely nothing to do with my wife.]
We (the guys at work) are looking for the definition of the phenomenon that occurs when the temperature inside your house stays the same, but the temperature outside your house decreases causing your wife to suddenly become cold (even though she’s still inside).
Example: It’s 80 degrees outside, and your inside temperature is 68 degrees. Your wife is fine. You don’t change the thermostat, yet when it’s 45 degrees outside, your wife is cold.
Can anybody shed some light on this for us? We’d hate to lose (even more) sleep over this issue.

You’re right dear, it’s not about me. You’re always the first one to go put on your flannel pants and grab a big blanket. BTW, the thermostat’s only set at 65, therefore the house is a little chilly when the sun’s not shining though those living room windows all day.
Roxann @ 5:50 pm:
I say its the drafts…
Also, its the humidity. When its 80 outside, the humidity is much higher than when it is 45 outside.
At least, those are my excuses…

Some combo of lack of sunlight, lower humidity, drafts and (I hate to say it) female genes? Or poor circulation? I dunno. I think women may feel colder when we’re just sitting around because we rarely do it– we’re usually off cleaning or chasing kids. When we finally stop, we get cold. I ALWAYS use a blanket when I’m watching TV, even in summer. Though since we’ve had our first baby I think it may be that women are always colder because they save their internal heaters for pregnancy. I was pregnant all during the winter last year and Gaines was happy b/c we could set the thermostat lower. Although I still got cold– and still had to use a blanket when TV watching, it wasn’t as drastic as usual. Maybe all this is just me, though…I’m already cold-natured to start with!
The Spine Doctor @ 12:29 pm:
Scientifically, the phenomenon is known as domogynothermia, a subset of domogynosis. This is believed to be a psychosomatic relationship where the female has a strong emotional tie to her home. When it’s ‘cold’, she’s cold. (Consequently, when it’s cluttered, she feels cluttered, etc., et al.)
The traditional solution to this is the ‘den’. This is a separate part of the house where one or the other can go and amazingly the temperature of this room, suits the resident.
Classically, the solution was to keep her barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen cooking, where she will stay pleasantly warm and there will always be food available to munchy-feeling husbands.

I don’t know the answer…I’m still working on why husbands can’t properly load dishwashers…

I would like to take back my previous comment…it has caused a strike that I would like to end. I, the wife of one spine doctor, am sorry that I made fun of his dish washer loading skills, and promise never to bring it up again…ever!
