Remax Hot Air Balloon Crashed in My Yard

This morning I awoke to the sound of voices in the back yard. Then I heard a noise that sounded a bit like static on the TV. Neither my cat nor I really cared much about the voices, but the loud static noise really concerned me (and the cat). I went into the bathroom toward the window, wondering what I was going to see outside. What I saw was the last thing I would have ever expected to see - the Remax hot air balloon.

Yes, you read that right.

I watched from inside, and I snapped a few pictures before going out to talk to my surprise visitors. When I got out there, the pilot was laughing. I asked him if he was ok, and he wondered why I would ask - as if the Remax balloon frequents my back yard. He said they were flying and “it was time to bring her down” so since my yard is big and free of power lines, they landed in it.

There was a Remax van in my driveway. I guess they use it to transport the balloon. It had all sorts of GPS navigation equipment mounted in the dash. They backed the van up to the balloon, loaded it up, and drove away. It made for quite the bizarre morning.

Anyway, here are the pictures:

Richard @ 8:44 am:

They just drove up onto your property? That would really annoy me if someone, especially some big business, drove their big ‘ol van up onto my property.

I think you should get some sort of fee from Remax for allowing the use of your lawn as their landing ground.

Allison @ 9:18 am:

The title of this post is misleading.

But it definitely makes for an interesting anecdote.

And it’s it illegal to land balloons on private property? I honestly have no idea, but I mean, your yard is not a landing strip.

P.S. Before your post, I had no idea that ReMax really even HAD a balloon–I thought it was just for the commercials. What do they use it for?!

John Penrod @ 3:42 pm:

I would INSIST on a free ride for you and all your friends!

Your friend,

John P. :)

The spine doctor's wife @ 10:53 am:

You think they would have chosen one of the houses they were trying to sell. That would be an attention grabber for those in the market.

Ron Davis @ 12:37 pm:

Richard - to be fair, they did ask before they drove the van into the yard.

Allison - apparently they use this for brand awareness. It’s a great idea…I just think they need to work on their flight plans a little.

Penrod - I’d TOTALLY hook you up with a balloon ride. :)

Apparently amidst the apartment remodeling I missed this amazing prophecy that came from the sky! Been praying for a sign? lol
