The first day of our Spring Training trip this year went about as well as it could. Granted, I wasn’t thrilled with a 2-hour delay leaving Atlanta, but I was supposed to arrive in West Palm Beach 2+ hours before Dad, so we ended up landing about the same time.
Last night we saw the Mets and the Nationals in Port St. Lucie. The Mets really have good potential for being a tough team to beat this year. (The Nationals not so much.) The Mets played what will probably be their opening day lineup, and the starting nine played most of the game.
Tradition Field is one of the few left that has the team bullpen in foul territory. We were sitting down at the bullpen for batting practice and talking about how cool it would be if Johan Santana pitched because we’d get to see him throw from about 30 feet away. He was pitching, we did get to see him warm up in the bullpen, and it was amazing. We were about halfway between him and his catcher.
Santana pitched a great game. Then Rodriguez came in and pitched the 8th. It was a lot of fun seeing 2 of the games best pitchers. We were about 6 rows up from the field, between home plate and the third base dugout, so we had an excellent view of the game.
Today it’s the Orioles and Cardinals. We’ll be on the third base line, row 1. We’re off to Perkins for a big breakfast, and then we’ll be headed down to Jupiter. More later.
