So today is the last day in the week that I’m supposed to have Andrew Peterson’s North! Or Be Eaten read, reviewed, and on the web site. The problem is that I haven’t exactly finished reading it. Ugh. I know, I know. I got started late, and I’m not a fast reader. So even though I’ve not completely read the book, I’m going to review it anyway. It’s like 8th grade English class all over again.
North! Or Be Eaten is the second in a three-part series called “The Wingfeather Saga.” I reviewed the first book, On the Edge of the Dark Sea of Darkness (and actually read it before I reviewed it), and I’ve been looking forward to getting book two.
Book one ends with the Igiby children finding out they weren’t exactly normal kids, and book two has them fleeing danger. There are monsters and scary parts to the book, but I don’t think it’s anything that would cause nightmares or permanent psychological damage to a kid. That’s always a good thing.
What I’ve enjoyed most about these books is that Peterson has created more than just a story of the Igiby family – he’s created a whole world with its own unique lands, dangers, villains, and animals. He’s got maps in the book so you can see where Glipwood Forrest is in relation to The Ice Prairies. There are also drawings of the animals – like the horned hound and the quill diggle.
It’s easy (and a lot of fun) to take a break from the real world and head into this one that Peterson has created for us. Take some time to sit down with The Windfeather Saga. You’ll be glad you did. You can get it on Amazon or in the Rabbit Room.
