Ahhhh, vacation time.
I’m taking a bit of time off from work this month. Actually, it’s quite a bit. I’m glad for a break, and I’m looking forward to hitting the ground running in 2010. There’s a lot of very cool stuff coming in 2010 – both professionally and personally – and I find myself looking forward to 2010 more than I’ve looked forward to any previous new year.
My last day at work for the year was Wednesday. On Thursday afternoon, I headed to Nashville for my annual trip (pilgrimage?) to see Andrew Peterson’s “Behold the Lamb of God” Christmas concert at the Ryman auditorium.

That picture was taken by my friend Chip (who I finally got to meet that night) at the final song. The concert was amazing. Somehow they manage to make it better every year. The Ryman staff was obnoxious and rude, but that’s pretty much par for the course. (I mentioned this on Twitter, and I got an inquiry from the Ryman on the staff rudeness. I’ll reply first chance I get, and maybe next year they’ll be a little less verbally abusive.)
I stayed overnight with my friend Eric (whose music you should buy), grabbed some Waffle House with him on Friday, and then headed home. I hate driving I-24 through the mountains, for what it’s worth. The mountains are beautiful; the interstate is not.
Saturday night I headed down to McDonough to (finally) meet Jason Pye. We’ve known each other online for a while, and it was finally good to meet him. Some other friends were there as well, and we celebrated Jason’s upcoming birthday. I had only ever met one guy (Brett) before that dinner, but it’s always nice to meet other people who love liberty.
Sunday morning I got to give a talk about Safe Eyes to our church group, and then after church we headed to see my wife’s aunt and uncle (and cousins) in Tullahoma, Tennessee. We had a great dinner here and fun hanging out a little bit. We leave first thing in the morning for Chicago. It’s more than 10 hours driving time to my wife’s parents’ house. I’m hoping for clear skies and non-snowy roads. After we spend time there, we’ll head home for a few days, then head out to see my parents sometime around the new year.
I’m heading off to sleep now. I’m supposed to be awake, showered, and ready for a 10+ hour drive first thing in the morning. More soon.
