Today I diagnosed one of our 20″ iMacs to have a bad hard drive. The closest Apple store is not exactly close, and the warranty expired a while back, so I decided to see if I could replace the hard drive myself.
These things are amazing. The design and placement of every little piece in there is nothing short of brilliance. I found this youtube video that gives a great tutorial for getting the iMac apart and getting to the hard drive. Snow Leopard is reinstalling, and hopefully this thing will be back in action sometime tomorrow morning.
If you’re wondering if the hard drive in your iMac is user replaceable, the answer is yes. And you should do it yourself because:
- You’ll save yourself some cash.
- You’ll get to take an iMac apart.
Here’s the video tutorial I followed.
